Design Lead
Designed for phones with screen sizes up to 6” dia., Airframe+ was developed in just under five months for release ahead of the Apple’s first large screen phone in 2014. Since its launch, over two million Airframe+ car mounts have been sold worldwide, overtaking the original Airframe. It was also the most popular auto accessory in the Apple Store.
As VP of Design, I led all aspects of the Airframe+ design, from inception to market launch.
The Airframe+ expands to fit different phone sizes.

Early prototypes involved modifying the original Airframe to see how we could expand maximum grip width without increasing the original compact dimensions.

Airframe+ Leather Edition
Design Lead
I drew from my technical softgoods experience to develop this variant of the Airframe+ car mount aimed at the high end accessory market. Deceptively complex to develop and produce, the process required skivving leather down to 0.2mm thick and then bonding to multiple small parts.
In addition to designing to project, I worked with factory vendors and other stakeholders to create the high-end product in-budget.
The black pebbled leather was chosen to compliment the interior of luxury cars.

To address evolving phone form factors and consumer feedback, I guided the industrial design and engineering groups in creating a new line of car mounts launched in 2017 that included dashboard and windshield mounts plus a magnetic phone attachment.

With many popular smartphones now featuring wireless charging capabilities, we sought to create a line of best-in-class Qi-wireless charging car mounts to provide a convenient way for drivers to keep their phones charged, particularly with the rise of battery intensive apps like navigation and music streaming.

Airframe Wireless uses the signature Airframe vent attachment. Heat protection auto shut-off ensures the charger or users phones aren’t damaged if temperature rises above a set limit.
The design language was adapted to the larger form factor.
